Initially established as the Colonial Architect in 1816, the role of the Government Architect NSW has been central to the development of our built environment and synonymous with the design of public buildings and advocacy for amenity in the public realm in NSW.
Government Architect NSW provides strategic design leadership in architecture, urban design and landscape architecture. The office advocates for design awareness and excellence on behalf of government, its agencies and partners; fosters public and private sector partnerships and design collaborations across built environment initiatives; and provides strategic and independent advice and quality review to support best practice outcomes for design projects.
By integrating design expertise, the team works across government, the private sector and the community to improve social, environmental and economic outcomes for NSW and all of our communities. In acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land and Aboriginal people’s unique cultural relationships to place, Government Architect NSW seeks to uphold the idea that if we care for Country - it will care for us. Government in delivering quality, managing risk and fostering innovation to maximise public value in the built environment.
